02 FAQ

Common questions.

Don’t see your question? Call the boat — we’d rather talk it through.

Do I need a fishing license?

No. A North Carolina saltwater fishing license is included for every angler on the boat — you’re covered.

How many guests can come along?

Up to 6 guests per trip. The boat is set up as a private charter, so the trip is just for your group.

Are kids welcome?

Yes — the boat is kid-friendly and the captains are happy to give hands-on instruction to first-timers, including younger anglers.

Can I keep my catch?

Yes, you’re welcome to keep what you catch within state and federal regulations. The crew will help with handling at the dock.

What about deposits and cancellations?

Booking deposits and cancellation specifics are handled through Mallard Bay at the time of booking — please reach out and we’ll walk you through current policy.

What if the weather looks rough?

Safety first. If the captain calls a weather cancellation, we’ll work with you to reschedule or refund per the booking policy.

Are gratuities expected?

Tips for the captain and mate are appreciated when service warrants it — standard charter etiquette is 15–20% of the trip rate, but it’s entirely your call.

Do you offer lodging?

We don’t offer lodging directly. Manteo and the surrounding Outer Banks have a wide range of rentals and hotels — reach out and we’re happy to point you in the right direction.
